TOP TTO swimmer Dylan Carter concluded his campaign with a 15th place finish in the men’s 50m freestyle when the World Aquatics Championships (Long Course-50m course) in Doha, Qatar, continued yesterday.

The 2023 five-time Central American and Caribbean Games medallist finished eighth in semi-final two in 22.01 seconds and 15th overall to conclude his participation at the Worlds.

Favourite Cameron Mc Evoy of Australia easily topped that semi, posting 21.23 seconds, ahead of Sweden’s Bjoern Seeliger (21.67) and Greece’s Kristian Gkolomeev (21.72).

Kenzo Simmons (21.73) of the Netherlands and the other “Aussie” Isaac Cooper (21.74) were the fourth and fifth fastest qualifiers, respectively, out of semi-final two, and also advanced to today’s final.

The rest of the semi-final went as follows: Hong Kong’s Ian Yentou Ho(21.84), Serbia’s Andrei Barna (21.89) and Carter.

In the first semi-final. Ukraine’s Vladyslav Bukhov claimed the top spot in 21.38 ahead of Great Britain’s Benjamin Proud (21.54) and USA Olympian Michael Andrews (21.77), the top three advancing to the final.

The Italian pair of Lorenzo Zazzeri (21.80) and Leonardo Deplano (21.81) were followed by South Korea’s Yuchan Li (21.87), USA’s Matt King (21.99) and Slovakia’s Matej Dusa (22.11).

Earlier, Carter was the 11th fastest qualifier out of the preliminaries when he was third in heat 10 of 12 in 21.95.

Also yesterday, TTO’s 31-year-old veteran Cherelle Thompson finished 41st of 57 in the women’s 50m butterfly (29.58).

She is scheduled to conclude her Worlds’ participation today from 2:46 a.m. when she tackles heat eight of 12 in the women’s 50m freestyle event.
