The number of fans enrolled as official members of Manchester United has reached a record 330,000 – the largest such programme in world sport.

The figure exceeds the 290,000 members of Bayern Munich’s equivalent programme, previously recognised as the largest in the world.

It is the first time that United’s membership – and that of any football team – has exceeded 300,000, reflecting the growth of our global fan base across every part of the world. United has members in 167 countries.

The number of official Manchester United Supporters’ Clubs has also reached a record level, with 275 in 94 countries.

Collette Roche, Manchester United chief operating officer, said: “Manchester United’s greatest strength is our huge global family of loyal fans, whether match-goers who come to Old Trafford week-in-week-out, or the millions who support us just as passionately from around the world.

“We are delighted that so many of these fans have become official members, bringing them closer to the club and providing a range of benefits such as preferential access to match tickets and a range of discounts on club products and services.

“On behalf of everyone at Manchester United, I would like to thank our official members for the unstinting support they provide to the club and our teams.”

The surge in memberships adds to a series of records broken by our fans this season as United’s support goes from strength to strength.

Sell-out crowds of over 73,000 for our UEFA Europa League games against FC Sheriff and Omonia at OId Trafford in October set new attendance records for the group stages of the competition. Meanwhile, the 30,196 fans who watched last Saturday’s 5-0 victory for Manchester United Women against Aston Villa set a new record for a WSL match at the Theatre of Dreams.

The club has been working with its Fans’ Forum and Fans’ Advisory Board to increase access to tickets, through the introduction of Cup Season Tickets, the widening of youth discounts across the whole stadium, and other initiatives to ensure that as many seats as possible are filled for every game.

“Demand for seats at Old Trafford is higher than ever and we never take that support for granted,” said Roche. “We are continuing to work with our fan representatives to ensure that as many fans as possible can enjoy the Theatre of Dreams, with a matchday atmosphere that provides a great experience for fans and strong support for the team.”
