As explained, the strategic partnership aims to support Hapag-Lloyd’s ‘ambitious’ decarbonization strategy by leveraging this long-standing partnership and Ankeri’s tool set.

In response to the urgent need for sustainable shipping practices, Hapag-Lloyd has taken a significant step forward by selecting Ankeri to provide a comprehensive suite of tools designed to streamline and expedite the decarbonization process for its fleet. This selected suite builds on existing digital infrastructure provided by Ankeri and combines the strengths of several business units to support the fleet transition efforts.

The collaboration between the duo is said to underscore a commitment to fostering innovation in the maritime industry. Ankeri’s technology has been in use since 2018 and enables Hapag-Lloyd to assess, optimize, and monitor various aspects of its fleet’s energy efficiency, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Ankeri on our decarbonization journey. This collaboration marks a significant step in our continuous efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of our fleet and is in line with our goal to become net-zero carbon by 2045. By integrating Ankeri’s state-of-the-art digital tools, we aim to contribute meaningfully to more sustainable shipping operations,” Arne Maibohm, Hapag-Lloyd’s Director Decarbonization, said.

“We are proud to support Hapag-Lloyd in their commitment to sustainability. Our innovative software solutions are tailored to empower shipping companies to leverage their data in their journey towards decarbonization. We look forward to working closely with Hapag-Lloyd and contributing to their success in achieving their ambitious environmental goals,” Kristinn Aspelund, Ankeri Solutions’ CEO, commented.

This strategic partnership highlights the shared vision of both Hapag-Lloyd and Ankeri Solutions to pioneer sustainable solutions within the maritime industry, according to the companies.

The collaboration aims to deliver tangible results in reducing emissions and fostering a more sustainable approach to global shipping operations.

With a fleet of 264 containerships and a total transport capacity of 2.0 million TEU, Hapag-Lloyd is the world’s fifth-biggest container shipping company, according to the Alphaliner Top 100 list.

Earlier this year, Hapag-Lloyd signed an agreement with Danish counterpart Maersk for a new long-term operational collaboration called ”Gemini Cooperation”, which will start in February 2025.

The new cooperation will comprise a fleet pool of around 290 vessels with a combined capacity of 3.4 million containers (TEU); Maersk will deploy 60% and Hapag-Lloyd 40%. Many of these ships will be ready to adopt cleaner fuels.
