Usman, Adesanya, Others Promote MMA, UFC In Africa
December 31, (THEWILL) – Former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, has taken it upon himself to help promote Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Africa ahead of the debut of an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on the continent.
Usman has joined fellow Africans such as former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya and current UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, in their efforts to promote the sport on the continent and get more local talents for the sport.
Adesanya, who is nicknamed “the Last Stylebender”, has Nigerian ancestry, while Ngannou hails from Cameroon and they are determined to start from home.
Dricus du Plessis, who recently won a match against Darren Till at UFC 282, has also called for the UFC to come to his native South Africa for their continental debut, stating that the country has the necessary infrastructure to host a major event.
As THEWILL previously reported, UFC President, Dana White, had unambiguously expressed his desire to bring the UFC to Africa in 2023.
