Who will win Copa Libertadores 2023? Betting odds, futures and lines for South American CONMEBOL championship

The 2023 Copa Libertadores, the 64th edition of the South American continental championship, is sure to provide thrills, surprises, heartbreaks, and more.

Last year’s winners Flamengo enter as both defending champions and pre-tournament betting favorites, but there are plenty of contenders to their crown.

A Brazilian club has won each of the last four Copa Libertadores titles, with Flamengo and Palmeiras splitting two each. Argentine side River Plate won in 2018, the last time a club from Brazil did not emerge victorious.

Colombian side Atletico Nacional is the last club not from Brazil or Argentina to lift the trophy, winning in 2016. They were the first club not from the two dominant giants to win since 2008 when Ecuadorian side LDU Quito emerged victorious.

Copa Libertadores 2023 odds, futures

As you might imagine, Brazilian and Argentinian clubs dominate the favorites list for the 2023 Copa Libertadores, as they do every year.

They have earned that status well. The quarterfinals of the 2022 tournament was comprised entirely of Brazilian and Argentinian clubs, with clubs from all other South American nations eliminated prior to that stage. Since 1992, a club not from Brazil or Argentina has won the Copa Libertadores just four times.

For the 2023 tournament, defending champions Flamengo are considered pre-tournament favorites to win despite them finishing fifth in the league table last season. Defending Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras are second-favorites, while defending Argentine league champs River Plate are the first non-Brazilian side in fourth.

The first club from neither Brazil or Argentina to appear is Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle, who enter the competition as last year’s Copa Sudamericana winners. They have some proving to do, as they finished third in the Ecuadorian league table last season despite their continental success.
