Zamfara: APC Is Indirectly Campaigning For PDP, Party Chieftain Declares

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Zamfara State, Ishiaku Haruna has claimed that the ongoing leadership tussle between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP in the state is an indirect campaign for the party.

According to him, the battle for supremacy between both parties is gradually making PDP more popular in the state, noting that the ruling party is indirectly campaigning for the opposition party in the state.

Naija News reports that Haruna told Daily Post that the state government under the APC is drawing public sympathy to the PDP as many people have already started sympathising with the party.

The PDP chieftain submitted that at this critical time the APC didn’t have to get involved in such a political clash with any party, because their supporters out of sympathy will give their votes to the PDP in the 2023 general elections in the state.

Haruna recalled a similar incident in 2011 when the former State Governor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi’s administration detained Ahmed Sani Yarima of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) for over six hours at the State police headquarters, and how it drew the attention of the general public and they pitched their tents in Yarima’s camp.

He advanced that because of the political clash, the indigenes are reaping thorns in APC’s apple farms, noting that PDP leaders in the state should not be afraid of intimidation because the APC in the state is only a toothless bulldog that can bark but cannot bite.

Haruna also revealed that despite all the lapses in the ruling APC, the PDP hasn’t criticized it so that peace can reign in the state.

“The sympathy from the electorate brought former Governor Abdul Aziz Abubakar Yari to the Government House as the voters revolted against the then-ruling PDP through the ballot box.

“We are now passing through the same process and the ruling APC has not learnt anything from that lesson of 2011.

“If the PDP criticises the ruling APC, people will look at it from a different perspective as if we want to sabotage the government,” Haruna added.
